BIGNYC Score: More Upholstery / Drapery Fabric - INVENTORY

I picked up two more bolts of fabric from BIGNYC this past Sunday -- one is Schumacher and the other is Brunschwig et Fils -- fancy fancy.  Both have at least ten yards left on them so there is plenty or most non-upholstery applications we might come up with.

I'm pretty excited about this blue one, "Rubaiyat".  I think it would make some pretty splendid drapes for the baby's room.

Upholstery Fabric Score!

With all this white and off white furniture we've picked up recently on Craigslist, we have been talking about reupholstering a chair or sofa in something other than white. I have gotten estimates from a few reputable upholsterers and it seems like a pretty reasonable and affordable approach... Until you add in the price of fabric.

Sadly, every time I spy a fabric I really love, it turns out to be Fortuny or Brunschwig or some such prohibitively expensive brand. So, imagine my joy when I found this bolt of 12 yards of Kravet 53% silk / 47% poly in vibrant blues at BIG NYC today. It is brand new still in the plastic shipping bag Kravet mailed it in to someone last year. I don't know exactly what we'll do with it but I love the colors and feel. So luxurious.

TBONTB - upholstered chairs

Since this blog began with an inquiry about the re-upholstery of a chair, it seems fitting that I should return to that topic in earnest.
What do we think of this chair?  I have been offered a pair of them in great condition, both just like this one.  The brown rug definitely makes it look worse than it would in a more contemporary or industrial or whatever setting.  How would it look on recycled maple flooring?  It is green wide wale velvet corduroy (or something like corduroy) and that isn't going away without a significant investment in re-upholstery.  Anyway, what do we think?

[UPDATE: We didn't get the chairs - for some reason they gave them to a thrift shop - bummer. Although I think V is probably happy about it. Oh well.]

design ideas - upholstery - POP!

DAMN!! I love me some bright red upholstery!! But florals or traditional patterns.
I would credit the folks who originally posted these pix on the web, but I didn't save the info - it was a while ago. Bummer.

Sweet! It's like Copacabana or Ipanema or one of those.

Hmmm: Lemme check...
Ipanema

and...
Copacabana

Hmmmm...
Okay - so more Ipanema than Copacabana but kind of like the two made colorful pillow babies.
+ =

Damask!! Boo yah!!!

Ignore the question mark. That was from the original post which I haven't the link to.

So, what is it I like about these upholstery choices? They pop, certainly.
I like the incongruity (incongruousness?) of the traditional form of the chairs and styling generally playing against the color/pop!
RULE: Henceforth, Pop! is a four letter word spelled with an exclamation point. I'd make it a five letter word if I had easier access to that upside down Spanish punctuation.
