Blu Dot for Target

Imagine my excitement! This is an online-only collection, but I think it all looks cool. What do you think of this console? Yes, it is mdf, but it's cheap and cute and it holds stuff. Slightly low. It comes with the light blue and the gray doors to change out if you want.

There's also this:

Obviously no drawers on either. Check it out: http://www.target.com/c/living-room-furniture-too-by-blu-dot-brand-shop/-/N-56ce5#?lnk=lnav_shop%20categories_5

SCORE: Carrara Bianco Gioia Marble - INVENTORY

I stopped by BIGNYC first thing this morning to drop off some cans of paint and varnish and stuff and I saw they still had these 15 unopened boxes of 12"x12" white Carrara marble tiles which I spied last weekend. We still need flooring for the master bath upstate and V and I agreed last year that we would be fine going with white Carrara so it seemed like a good opportunity to get this procurement problem out of the way.  The price for the whole lot was right and I took them all. 150 Square feet. Done!
Anyway, the photos here are of the actual boxes but the picture of the marble itself is a stock photo from the web. We don't actually know how much movement or shading or spider webbing there might be on them. Won't know until we open all the boxes. I guess that is how it works when you buy natural stone - you get what you get. Fortunately they are all Gioia, meaning that they at all quarried from the same region in Messina, Italy. So at least we know they should have some consistency.
Hooray for BIG NYC.

Design Ideas: Window Treatments for Brownstone Parlor

We are agreed that the cheap blinds we have up in our living room now are inadequate and style-less, but there is no obvious solution.  Originally, there were big wooden shutters but those are heavy and now covered in a century of paint over paint over paint.  It's made more difficult because the windows are floor to ceiling so whatever we do has to be very large.  Plus, we want them open for light but closed for the passing public.  What to do?
Here are some ideas I found on the web.

I don't care for the dark exposed wood window mouldings, but I like that they have recessed the curtains into the inside of the mouldings where the folded shutters would have hid.

This is a fairly simple solution - I like it - but it might obstruct the space for artwork between the windows.

Valances like these below are out of the question for me.  Just too fussy looking.

Or we could just do this in our living room:

BIGNYC Score: More Upholstery / Drapery Fabric - INVENTORY

I picked up two more bolts of fabric from BIGNYC this past Sunday -- one is Schumacher and the other is Brunschwig et Fils -- fancy fancy.  Both have at least ten yards left on them so there is plenty or most non-upholstery applications we might come up with.

I'm pretty excited about this blue one, "Rubaiyat".  I think it would make some pretty splendid drapes for the baby's room.
